Days 1-2
Immediately after your procedure, your eyebrows will appear bold and full. Expect them to look around 50% darker and 10% – 15% larger than the final result. Don’t worry—this is temporary, and your brows will shrink slightly as they heal.
During this time, you might experience:
These symptoms usually subside after the first day or two, but in some cases, they may last a little longer.
By the third day, any soreness or redness should start to fade. Your brows will still appear dark and thick, but that will soon change. Around day 4, scabbing begins to form, and by day 5, your brows may start to feel itchy and flaky. This is a normal part of the healing process, as your skin starts to repair itself.
During this stage, the scabs will fully form, and you’ll notice more flaking or peeling. It’s common for your brows to become quite itchy as they heal.
By day 7, scabs will begin falling off. It’s crucial to avoid scratching or picking at the scabs, as this can interfere with the healing process and cause uneven results.
As the peeling continues, the dark pigment will start to fade. Don’t be alarmed if it seems like your color is disappearing—this is part of the process.
Moving into the second week, most of the peeling and flaking should be complete. While it may seem like a lot of the pigment has come off, this is completely normal.
By day 12, the color will begin to settle, and the individual hair strokes will become more visible and defined.
As you enter the third week, your brows will continue to look more natural.
By day 14, you can safely let your brows come into contact with water again, and you can resume your normal skincare routine. Towards the end of the third week, the color may start to return and become more even across the entire brow.
At the one-month mark, the healing process is generally complete. By now, the color of your brows will likely have returned by about 75% – 85%, with a little more vibrancy developing in the coming weeks.
Now you can fully enjoy your new, beautiful brows!
The 6-12 Week Touch-Up: A Two-Step Procedure
Your initial permanent makeup procedure is actually a two-step process. The second appointment, scheduled 6-12 weeks after the first, is essential for perfecting your brows. This follow-up session allows your artist to address any areas where the pigment may not have fully taken and to make any necessary adjustments to the shape or color.
While the touch-up is part of the overall healing process, the aftercare is usually similar to what you did after the initial procedure, but the healing is often faster. Follow these steps to ensure proper healing and the best results:
TOUCH-UP
Typically, healing after the touch-up is faster since it’s more of a refinement than a full procedure. You may notice that the flaking, peeling, and fading process is quicker, often healing within 7-10 days.
Touch-ups, whether done a few months or years after your initial procedure, are a normal part of maintaining permanent makeup. Over time, it’s natural for the pigment to fade, so a touch-up can help maintain the definition, shape, and color of your brows.
Most people get touch-ups between 12 and 18 months after the initial procedure, but it can vary. In some cases, brows can look great for several years before needing a refresh. The healing process for touch-ups is usually much quicker since only small areas are being addressed. Many clients find that their brows heal in less than two weeks after a touch-up. However, healing times can vary for each individual.
